Sherwood Lodge is an historic country home, strategically located beside the Lottery River in the foothills at the junction of the Amuri, Hanmer and Seaward Kaikoura ranges, in the middle of the South Island of New Zealand (approximately 90 minutes north west of Christchurch International Airport).
Sherwood Lodge has 6 suites available, five with ensuite bathrooms and one with a private bathroom across the hall. Each suite is decorated differently, to make the most of the room's individual attributes. All rooms in the house have central heating (and the downstairs suites all have open fires to make them even cosier).
The grounds at Sherwood are full of mature English trees such as horse chestnuts, willows, lindens, and oaks. Spring bulbs abound, as do a variety of roses. Guests can enjoy themselves in the shade of a weeping willow or on a seat under the rose arbour, surrounded by the scents of numerous climbing and bush roses.
Retreat into a place of beauty, peace and quiet. Relax in a hammock under the shade of a big tree, swim in the pool, curl up in front of an open fire with a book, enjoy a soak in a spa. Wander along the river, fossick for fossils, ride a mountain bike, hike in the hills, play tennis or a round of golf.
Watch the whales or swim with the dolphins at Kaikoura, experience the excitement of a jet boat ride, ski Mt Lyford. Be guided into a hunter's paradise in the surrounding mountains. Horse trek through mountain passes. Fish where some of the best brown trout and salmon fishing can be found.
And at the end of the day, enjoy some of the best food and wine New Zealand has to offer.
